DeepTraffic Awarded Open Technology Programme Grant

From the development of new oxidases and research into the influence of deeper natural tectonic processes to the development of a new generation of hybrid traffic prediction methods, the awarded projects combine scientific excellence with tangible impact. Thanks to OTP funding, top researchers now have the opportunity to turn bold ideas into solutions that contribute to various societal challenges.

About DeepTraffic

The granted project for hybrid traffic prediction is DeepTraffic, a research project led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Hans van Lint and Prof. Dr. Ir. Serge Hoogendoorn from Delft University of Technology.

“Road traffic is a highly complex dynamic system,” explains Van Lint. “Minor disruptions can lead to major delays, with traffic jams spreading like oil spills across entire networks. Traffic management based on reliable predictions is therefore crucial to ensure accessibility and safety, especially during major events, accidents and extreme weather.” The project therefore aims to develop a new generation of traffic prediction methods, combining traffic flow theory with machine learning, and thus bringing together the best of both worlds: theory and logic where necessary, data-driven approaches where possible. Van Lint: “This innovative new approach enables more efficient and robust management of large traffic networks under all conditions.”

About the Open Technology Programme

The Open Technology Programme provides funding for application-oriented technical-scientific research that is free, unfettered and unencumbered by disciplinary boundaries. The programme provides a low-threshold way for companies and other organisations to join scientific research that should lead to societal and/or scientific impact.
